Yes, that’s right…. There is actually a Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame and it began in 2013. And Why not?… If you ask someone to name a famous golfer then this could be a stretch for someone who does not know much about golf but names such as Happy Gilmore and Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy are quick to come to mind. These are two sporting heroes from their respective sports movie that achieved so much glory in their 2 hour on screen sporting careers. A Fictitious sporting hall of fame was created to honour these athletes and sporting teams that captured our hearts and became legends on screen by their dramatic and amazing stories.
To become inducted into the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame the character must be a fictitious athlete or athletic supporting role appearing in a sports movie after 1970. In 2015 a “veterans” category was opened, which accepts nominees from before 1970. Voting in the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame is public. There are three rounds of voting each year: one preliminary vote to narrow the field, a second vote to refine the nominees, and a final vote to determine the inductees.
